Janson Media today announced the release to worldwide television markets of the new HDTV special, FIRST LIGHT: MAUNA KEA. This one-hour documentary focuses on the highest peak in the Pacific Ocean, Mauna Kea. The most sacred site in Hawaii, the premiere location for ground-based astronomy, and home to a rare natural environment, Mauna Kea stands peerless. The term “first light” is used by astronomers to describe the first images captured by a new telescope. It is the telling moment of its potential. In Hawaiian culture, dawn — the first light of day –is significant as well — the day’s fate is still being determined. It is fitting that the first light of each day falls on the summit of Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea is a place where culture, science and the environment are striving to coexist.
