From coast to coast, model rail enthusiasts have created realistic villages, tunnels, bridges, mountains, and valleys in order to showcase their prized train collections, many of which have been captured by photographers Ted Benson and Doyle McCormack for the series Tracks Ahead, which has run for six seasons on the Milwaukee PBS station. Great Model Train Layouts presents 12 of the best layouts found in America, along with visits to Washington D.C.’s famed Union Station, Wisconsin’s Whiskey River Railroad, and the Ringling Circus Train that transports animals and performers around the country. Finally, the film includes a tour of the Lionel Company, the leader in model railroading equipment since 1900. Railroads have played a major role in the development of the United States and the hobby of model railroading continues to attract enthusiasts of all ages, who will certainly be drawn to this beautifully filmed title.
