Mill Valley Film Group: Critically Acclaimed Art From a Different Set Of Rules
Filmmakers Will Parrinello and John Antonelli have been 'Making Films That Matter' with their Mill Valley Film Group for 25 years. From festivals (Sundance, Tribeca and Cannes) to television (PBS, Sundance Channel, MTV) they've seen their award winning creative work make a difference to film audiences around the world. Such success wouldn't be possible without a genuine adoration for their work, as evident by the company's mission statement: 'We have to feel a passion for the subject of our films. We both have to want to live with a film for a couple of years in order to take it on. And making films that matter wins out every time.' The production duo has released an impressive list of inspirational films such as the award-winning 'Dreaming of Tibet', 'Little Italy', 'Yen for Baseball' and more.
Janson Media had the good fortune of partnering with Mill Valley Film Group on its latest documentary series, Global Focus: The New Environmentalists. The Emmy-award winning six-part series features intimate portraits of six passionate and dedicated activists from around the world. Producers Will Parrinello, John Antonelli & Tom Dusenbery of Mill Valley Film Group traveled worldwide to capture the triumphs and challenges of environmental heroes who have stood up to government, corporations and other adversaries. Their common goals are safeguarding the Earth"s natural resources from shortsighted exploitation and the long term effects of pollution, and fighting for environmental justice in their communities. These &'New Environmentalists&' employ a formidable array of weapons to wage their battles. Picket signs, solar panels, legal briefs, garden hoes, spirituality, pop songs, dance and sheer determination are among their many resources.
Hosted by Robert Redford, Global Focus boasts an impressive list of awards including a Special Jury Award at the recent EcoVision Film Festival, a Goldman Environment Prize, a Mion Environmental Film Award and more. The program was made possible by the Goldman Environmental Prize, the international award for grassroots environmentalists, founded by Richard and Rhoda Goldman in 1990.
