NASA"s Last Launch is a one-hour television special that documents the final shuttle mission to outer space — the 135th flight and culmination of the most successful space launch program in history. Viewers go through the extensive astronaut training leading up to take-off with the four crew members. Get within 500 feet of the Atlantis as it makes its final launch into space.
This particular launch was a dramatic spectacle. Controllers had less than five minutes in which to get the rocket off the pad while its target, the International Space Station, was orbiting overhead. Clouds, which had loomed over the area all morning, parted just in time, and the countdown clock went into its final moments. But with just 31 seconds to go before liftoff, it suddenly stopped.
As one of the four astronauts from this mission states, &'When you get to see a launch, it"s not just witnessing a launch, you experience it. It"s something you hear, you feel, you experience. I think people will be proud to be part of a country that can take this magnificent vehicle and sling it into orbit, and just see the incredible power and majesty of this vehicle taking off.&'
