New Doc from Robin Wright to Launch Activist Campaign
Janson Media today announced the release of the documentary film When Elephants Fight: Inside the War for Congo's Minerals, to worldwide television, VOD, digital and DVD markets. This eye-opening new documentary spotlights the story that multinationals and global tech corporations don't want to tell… the story of their complicity in the illicit trade of Congolese conflict minerals.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is home to some of the world's richest seams of copper, coltan and other minerals increasingly sought after by global electronics manufacturers for use in smartphones and computers. In sub-Saharan Africa however, it's the same old story. Rather than improving life for the world's poorest people, however, billions of dollars have been redirected to tax havens and to local militias, fueling a war that has cost five million lives... and counting... since 1996, an endless war that may one day rank among the worst atrocities in modern history. Can it be stopped?
When Elephants Fight is available as a feature length film (1 x 79') and an edited version (1 x 52') is also available for broadcasters. The film is narrated by actress Robin Wright (co-star of the Netflix original series, House of Cards), who is also the film's executive producer. It was written and directed by Mike Ramsdell, and features a music score by Steve Jablonsky.
#STANDWITHCONGO
When Elephants Fight is the centerpiece of an activist campaign with the mission to 'mobilize students and consumer activists to pressure policy makers, stakeholders, and investors for greater transparency and accountability in the mining sector of the Democratic Republic of Congo.' Viewers and global citizens can join the campaign by following the hashtag #StandwithCongo on twitter and other social media sites. The campaign, led by Robin Wright, activist JD Stier of Stier Forward, and producer Mike Ramsdell, is set to officially launch in 2016, will include a tour featuring screenings at universities and public forums across the United States and Canada, as well as special events for policy makers and stakeholders in the private sector.
