On its Anniversary, Historic Civil War Battle Documented in Award Winning Film

Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, the Civil War battle considered to be the bloodiest battle in American history. The Battle between President Abraham Lincoln's Union and Robert E. Lee's Confederate states resulted in more casualties than the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Mexican War and the Spanish American War combined. Despite its death toll, the Battle of Antietam was a turning point for the war as it allowed President Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation ending slavery in the south - a pivotal catalyst to the course of America's race relations.
