Red Steagall's Annual Cowboy Gathering Celebrates its 20th Anniversary in Texas
On October 21, 2010 the annual Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival will kick off in traditional fashion with the Cowboy Heritage Ball. The ball will be held in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards and will benefit children of working ranch families by raising college scholarship funds. &'We are dedicated to making higher education a priority and more affordable for our children of working ranch families,&' said Steagall. Our hope is to award scholarships to all Texas ranching kids in need of a leg up.&' Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, the Cowboy Gathering will feature musical and poetry performances and a wide variety of cowboy themed activities (Trail Rides, Rodeo Action, Chuck Wagon Camp and Competition, Horsemanship Clinics, Youth Chuck Wagon Cook-off, and more). For those unable to make the trek to Texas, an intimate look at Steagall's western way of living is captured in the Janson Media DVD Red Steagall Presents Cowboy: The Legend, The Legacy (1 x 90'), available now worldwide.
Singer, songwriter and the Official Cowboy Poet of Texas, western entertainer Red Steagall is the host of this inspiring one-man show. Produced by The Entertainment Group in association with Janson Media, the special is taped in front of an intimate live audience in the living room of Red"s own rustic ranch outside Fort Worth, Texas. Red is joined during this dynamic musical hour by country superstar Reba McEntire, and Red"s own band, the Boys in the Bunkhouse as they speak to the history and legacy of the American Cowboy. Included in this motivational hour are such popular Red Steagall poems as The Fence That Me & Shorty Built, Ride For The Brand, Paw Paw, Memories in Grandmother"s Trunk, and Born To This Land. In addition to the one-hour special, the disc features a 30-minute &'behind-the-scenes&' film directed by Christopher Lewis called Making Cowboy, the Legend, the Legacy.
About Red Steagall Born in Gainesville, Texas with a passion for the western lifestyle, Red Steagall competed in rodeos as a youth and learned to play the guitar and mandolin. After college, Steagall traveled to California to share western traditions and values with the rest of the world through songs, poems, books, television and movies. Although Red Steagall is best known for his Texas swing dance music, he is also highly respected by Texas cowboys for the lyrical way in which he writes about the western way of life; he was honored as the Poet Laureate of Texas in 2006. A world performer, he has only called one place home - Texas. For more information on the 2010 Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival, please visit the official website.
