The Roberts Family Visits Oahu... and Pearl Harbor
59 years ago on this day December 7th, paradise was interrupted when the Japanese shocked the world - bombing the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack was a turning point in World War II and thrust The United States to declare war on Japan 4 days later. The 'Day of Infamy' sparked the 'Remember Pearl Harbor' slogan that reminds Americans of the event that ignited the war power and economic engine the country went on to become. Hawaii would also go on to recover and become one of the most popular tropic getaways in the US, with millions of tourists visiting the islands each year. The Travel with Kids series recently documented an adventurous trip to the capital of the 50th state in the DVD Travel with Kids:The Island of Oahu (1 x 40'), available now worldwide.
There are two very different sides to the island of Oahu-the fast-paced, activity packed Waikiki and the laid-back North Shore and in Travel with Kids: The Island of Oahu the Roberts family are determined to discover both. The confluence of cultures in Hawaii is apparent at the International Marketplace where the host family tries different cuisines ranging from Japanese noodles to Hawaiian traditional dishes. To learn more about the history and culture of Hawaii, the Roberts head over to the Polynesian Cultural Center, where they taste coconut bread and learn to throw a spear. For a more recent view of history, it"s on to Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. With all this land activity, it"s easy to forget that Hawaii is known for its undersea life. But our hosts have you covered with excursions below the waves at SeaLife Park where they come face to face with dolphins and stingrays.
