This Labor Day, Sacramento California Celebrates the Gold Rush

This Labor Day Weekend (September 4-7) Old Sacramento, California will be transformed to a scene straight out of the days of the 1850's for the 10th Annual Sacramento Gold Rush Days. More than 200 tons of dirt will be dumped on the streets of Old Sacramento as the annual festival 'turns back the clock', employing costumed re-enactors, recreating Wild West gun fights, replaying music with period instruments, and commemorating the era of the California Gold Rush. Visitors can pan for gold or take a ride on a horse drawn carriage while gaining an authentic first hand experience of the Gold Rush period during this four day event. The effects of the Gold Rush were substantial, including the admission of California as a free state, and the development of new methods of transportation like steamships and railroads.
