Unsolved Mysteries of the Miracle of Guadalupe
Legend has it that on this day December 9, 1531 the Virgin Mary appeared in Tepeyac Hill, Mexico before a humble Indian peasant named Juan Diego and requested that a shrine in her honor be built on the spot where she appeared. After struggling to convince the Bishop of his mysterious encounter, Diego was blessed with a second meeting with Mary, after which he was inspired to unveil dozens of roses before the Bishop. The unveiling miraculously exposed an apparition of Virgin Mary and was the beginning of a significant connection between the image of Mary and Mexican nationalism. While the influence of this tradition is undeniable, it also continues to spark countless debates amongst scholars and historians. The Janson Media DVDGuadalupe: A Living Image (1 x 52') takes a comprehensive look at the story behind the extraordinary image. The program is also available to worldwide Television, VOD, New Media, and Non-Theatric markets.
In this beautifully documented film, Msgr. Eduardo Chavez, postulator of the cause for canonization of St. Juan Diego, discusses the importance of the Nican Mopohua, a document that presents the original authentic history of the Miracle of Guadalupe.
Centuries later, the results of scientific analysis are amazing. In the Virgin"s eyes the thirteen figures who witnessed the miracle are visible. The stars on her cloak are positioned exactly as they were in the skies on the day of miracle, December 12, 1531. No painting technique known to man was used to imprint the image on Juan Diego"s tilma. The colors are vibrant and intact; the cloth itself, uncorrupted by time.
