Janson Media Partners with Google in New YouTubeâ„¢ Rentals Venture

Janson Media today announced it has entered into an agreement with YouTubeâ„¢, to make Janson Media DVD titles available through YouTube Rentals. YouTube"s new transactional mode puts power in the hands of partners allowing them to control the entire distribution cycle to fit their business needs. Partners like Janson Media can choose the price and duration of a rental and even migrate videos from rental to ad-supported over time. In addition to several independent filmmakers screening their features at Sundance, YouTube has begun inviting a small group of additional beta partners, including Janson Media, to begin offering videos for rent on YouTube, and thousands of such videos are now available. 'We have built a significant following for our short-form content on our own ad-supported channel on YouTube.com,' said Stephen Janson, president of Janson Media. 'While we are starting to see an upward trend in our advertising revenues, we weren't yet ready to make our DVD titles themselves available in the 'free' channel, so we found this new VOD rental model appealing.' Janson Media's Home Entertainment division publishes and manufactures over 200 titles, available for DVD worldwide through the company's DVD Catalog. All of the titles are available from a variety of EST (Electronic Sell-Through), VOD, and MOD (Manufacturing-on-Demand) platforms as well. YouTube Rentals brings more choice to content creators and distributors, giving filmmakers and distributors unprecedented control over the distribution of their work. About YouTube
Founded in February 2005, YouTube is the leader in online video, and the premier destination to watch and share original videos worldwide through a Web experience. YouTube allows people to easily upload and share video clips on www.YouTube.com and across the Internet through websites, mobile devices, blogs, and email. Everyone can watch videos on YouTube. People can see first-hand accounts of current events, find videos about their hobbies and interests, and discover the quirky and unusual. As more people capture special moments on video, YouTube is empowering them to become the broadcasters of tomorrow. YouTube received funding from Sequoia Capital in November 2005 and was officially launched one month later in December. Chad Hurley and Steve Chen proceeded to become the first members of the YouTube management team and currently serve as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer respectively. In November 2006, within a year of its launch, YouTube was purchased by Google Inc. in one of the most talked-about acquisitions to date. YouTube has struck numerous partnership deals with content providers such as CBS, BBC, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, NBA, The Sundance Channel and many more.
