Migrating Butterflies Show Signs That Spring Is Coming!

Sure Punxsutawney Phil might have given us the unfortunate forecast this year of six more weeks of Winter, but look around and you'll notice mother nature already preparing for another beautiful Spring season. Every year during the months of February and March, hibernating monarch butterflies in Mexico and southern California reawaken, become active, find a mate, begin the flight northward and lay their eggs. These special monarchs have lived about 4-5 months through the long winter and enjoy up to six weeks of adult life before passing away. The Janson Media DVD The Story of the Butterfly captures the life cycle of a butterfly, answering most of the common questions children might have about the intriguing species.

Follow our hero, Papilio memnon (the Great Mormon Butterfly), through its entire lifecycle and learn what dangers threaten its survival at every turn and what an amazing job it does at continuing the species! This educational DVD tells the amazing story of survival that is the life of a butterfly.

Learn about many exotic butterflies from far-flung places, and what you can do to help butterflies flourish in your garden at home and help the endangered butterflies of your area. Narration by Janet Wantling, Music by Tim Alcock, Illustrations by Amanda Hillier, Videography by Tom Coffee and Ian Rippey, Wasp, Monarch, and Viceroy photographs by Bruce Marlin.

&'A wonderful little documentary for all ages...features outstanding close-up footage of eggs, caterpillars, cocoons, and fully-formed butterflies as Janet Wamtling"s gentle and compelling narration follows the entire life cycle of the Papilio memnon (Great Mormon Butterfly).
