Higher Ambitions: Inspiring New Adventure Doc
Janson Media today announced the release of HIGHER AMBITIONS, the new one-hour adventure documentary from the award-winning filmmaker and mountaineer Tim Boelter. Two years in the making, HIGHER AMBITIONS captures a relentless and inspirational pursuit for the summit of one of China"s most revered and challenging peaks. Siguniang Shan, also known as the Four Maidens Mountains, are located in the Sichuan Province of southwest China. Here within the Qionglai Mountain Range, Siguniang"s 20,500-foot presence is a stunning scene. For the Chinese climbing community, this peak has always been considered too difficult to climb. But that"s about to change.
American alpinist Jon Otto and his Chinese business partner, Ma Yihua, are the founders of the Arete Alpine Instruction Center in Chengdu — which provides climbing instruction to a growing market of outdoor recreational enthusiasts. For Tim Boelter, documenting the risks and obstacles of climbing this mountain are challenging enough, but in an ironic twist of fate, it"s not the rock fall or avalanches that nearly kill him. Seven months after returning from the first assault on the mountain, Tim suffers a traumatic head injury in a place you"d never expect. His team of doctors urged him not to climb again, but six months later he returns to the mountain with Jon, and Ma — and the stakes are higher. With five of China"s top climbers joining the expedition, Jon and Ma are determined to get the first Chinese climbers on top of Siguniang. For Tim, the uncertainty of being able to climb at altitude after a nearly life-ending head trauma is a unique challenge. HIGHER AMBITIONS is an amazing adventure where setbacks and obstacles are overcome by a dogged persistence, and history is made.
HIGHER AMBITIONS was produced and directed by Tim Boelter for Media Ventures. The film won three International Telly awards for documentary, sports programming, and cinematography. The one-hour special is now available exclusively from Janson Media for worldwide television and video licensing.
