Legendary IMAX® Film Now Available on DVD, HD-DVD and BluRay

Janson Media today announced the release of Chronos to international DVD markets. The Omnimax Grand Prize-winning Chronos, a hallmark in the canon of special venue films, is the first non-verbal, non-fiction motion picture shot entirely in time-lapse photography.

Chronos is presented as a visual symphony in seven movements, contrasting the worlds of natural beauty and man-made monuments, as it recounts the story of Western Civilization without uttering a single word. Rather, a symphony of images and sounds created by award-winning filmmaker Ron Fricke and composer Michael Stearns captures the essence of time. The filmmakers were responsible for several stunning IMAX productions, including 'Koyaanisqatsi' and 'Baraka,' and their signature combination of striking imagery and evocative soundtracks have brought their work worldwide acclaim.

Chronos, which is the ancient Greek word for time, reveals life as an ever-changing phenomenon, a matrix of historical monuments organic and man-made, majestic and everlasting. The camera follows the transition of human intelligence from the remnants of the Nile civilization to the high technology of North America and Europe. One striking scene in the film brings the audience inside the Vatican, looking down from the Pope's balcony in St. Peter's Basilica onto a mass of people, as shafts of sunlight slowly sweep across the floor. Other scenes include a trip to La Scala opera house in Milan, Italy, an accelerated gondola ride in the Renaissance city of Venice, a tour through Egypt's great pyramids and ancient edifices, a seemingly weightless flight over Paris (with the Eiffel Tower at eye level), and an amusing look at an automobile factory manned by robots.

Chronos has been converted to both HD-DVD and BluRay formats, and is now available exclusively from Janson Media for worldwide DVD licensing, exclusive of North America.
