Video Librarian Review Dives Into Niagara Falls DVD

The Janson Media DVD Niagara Falls: Raging Rapids was strongly recommended in a recent review by Video Librarian. The review comes at a time that approaches peak season for North America's most celebrated natural wonder. Filmed in High Definition, viewers are taken on an informative probe into the scientific secrets of Niagara's origins and its relentless procession through geological time.
'Intended more as scientific exploration than travel teaser, this video"s goal is to 'piece together the epic life story of North America"s most celebrated natural wonder,' with emphasis on the forces at work in its creation 125 centuries ago, and the progression it"s made since then. Via helicopter, speedboat, high-tech lab, and rope"s end, and interviews with Falls historians, waterfall chasers, and search-and-rescue personnel, we discover that Niagara has traveled more than seven miles upriver during its lifetime, and that the canyon etched in its wake provides a geological window into the Earth"s past. Filmed with high-definition cameras and formatted in widescreen, this tape was designed as a showcase for HDTV, but it looks pretty darn good on regular TV, too. Made with the participation of the Discovery Channel, this program's emphasis on science, rather than on the touristy 'ooh, aah' aspects of the Falls, recommends it for nature collections, rather than travel collections. 3 Stars' - Video Librarian
